Happy New Year!Happy New Year Folks! Yesterday the province announced the current sport regulations, (originally announced on December 16), will remain in place for at least another two weeks. Sports can continue to practice or train with groups of up to 25 without social distancing. This number includes all participants in the sporting activity, (coaches, trainers, etc.). Games, competition, and events are not permitted, so all teams and training groups are to be consistent within their own personnel. Based on this announcement, both the registration and program start dates for the Multisport program will be delayed by 2 weeks. Registration for this program is now scheduled to open JANUARY 26th at 6AM. The program is now scheduled to begin on FEBRUARY 4th. In exciting news, Stoirm Volleyball has launched registration for a modified house-league 2021 season which is ONLY open to RETURNING (2020) players at this time due to the gathering limits. Details for how to get involved as a new athlete will be communicated in the near future if space permits, but feel free to email stoirmvolleyball@gmail.com to be placed on a waitlist for further communications. Additional information about the upcoming season can be found on the Stoirm details page. For unstructured opportunities to get active with your family, check out the Antigonish Town and Antigonish County Equipment Loan Programs. Groomed trails can be found for winter adventure at the Antigonish Golf Course and Keppoch Mountain. The Keppoch now has equipment to rent as well. Let’s take the roof off winter! We will be in touch with more updates soon. With any questions or information you may want to share, email admin@mysporthub.ca Wishing you all the best for this new year. Be well. Yours in Sport, |

Summertime Greetings and Updates - July 21 2020
Hello there, Hope you are having a good Summer! Just stopping by with some updates from the sport and recreation world since our last newsletter. To start, if you are looking for some inspiration to keep active at home these days, check out this video that features some awesome local athletes demonstrating their favorite at-home activities! See if your kids notice any familiar faces here! Thank you to these athletes for contributing. The StFX Track and Field club is now offering programming for children aged 8-10, (along with their previously announced offerings for 11+). For more information please check out their Facebook page or head to the Sport Hub website to register. Registration for Antigonish Minor Baseball is now closed and the season is underway. Though games have not yet been approved, lots of fun is being had on the field! Baseball Canada recently released an interview with our very own Randy Crouse (local, provincial, and national coordinator). For more information on the program in general, and for updates on how they are moving forward while navigating Covid-19, check out this video. Antigonish Town and County Summer 2020 Equipment borrowing service started up successfully earlier this month. There is a huge variety of equipment available to borrow, as well as Activity Kits. For more information and to book equipment click here!
StFX Athletics is running a fun promotion over the summer – youth age 12 & under are encouraged to ask a question to their favorite X-Men or X-Women athlete! Your question will either be answered on social media, or you will receive an email response. To ask a question please fill out this Google Form. Antigonish Multisport Statement released regarding 2020/2021 Season: "After much thought, consideration, and consultation about the upcoming Multisport season with our community partners, we feel that at this time, we are unable to offer our traditional Multisport program that was scheduled to start in September of 2020. We pride ourselves on a high-quality program, fully believe in the numerous benefits it offers, and strive to offer a safe and fun environment to play. Unfortunately, with the changing landscape of Covid-19, the multiple levels of logistics needed to implement our program, and the age of our participants, we feel it’s best to pause for this fall to ensure the safety, access, and enjoyment of all. Our partner organizations are committed to revisiting program planning this fall to look at potential modified programming for the new year". Sport Hub Antigonish and its partner organizations had originally created a "shared schedule" for this Summer Season that would avoid conflict within age groups so children could participate in multiple activities. This is one of the main functions that this collaborative project is meant to facilitate. However, like many of our plans this year, we had to change to adapt to the strange circumstances. Partner organizations had to adapt on the fly and do what had to be done to be able to offer programming when and however possible with the resources available. This means there may be some conflicts this season with the programming that gets off the ground, though it is our goal to eliminate as much conflict as possible in future seasons. Sending a HUGE thank you to our coaches, organizers, and other volunteers that are making the current programming possible with an immense level of effort behind the scenes! Way to make the most of these challenging circumstances. To view the most up to date information for each organization check out their websites and/or Facebook pages listed below:
Each organization is following the guidelines set out by the provincial government and their provincial sport organization, for the most up to date information on the Public Health recommendations, visit https://novascotia.ca/coronavirus/ . For specific Provincial Sport Organization (PSO) Return to Play plans, please visit each provincial organization’s website. The current NS Sport Guidelines for sport activities, such as practices and games remain in place. This means that there can be a maximum of 50 participants on a field of play, socially distanced, if the facility space allows, or there can be groups of 10 participants who are not distancing, provided each group is distanced from the other, again to a total of 50 participants. It is recommended that each group of 10 remains the same as much as possible. As of July 3, facilities that are registered businesses or organizations that are hosting amateur sporting events and competitions will be subject to the gathering limits of up to 250 people socially distanced for outdoor events, and up to 50% capacity to a limit of 200 people for indoor events. It is important to note that this applies only to facilities hosting events that are registered businesses or organizations, and the NS Sport Guidelines remain in effect for the field of play for each host facility. Please note that the up to 50 individuals involved in the field of play are part of the overall gathering numbers (up to 200 indoors or 250 outdoors. Thank you for your patience.Hi again, First of all, thank you for your patience while we deal with some glitches getting going with our newsletter system. Secondly, sincere apologies for the previous email with improper blind copy etiquette. It was the first newsletter we attempted to send using a new email server and a setup error caused this regrettable issue. It is fixed now, and hopefully, the error is resolved. This on the heels of a previous issue where not all subscribers were receiving the emails. This is also now solved. If you wish to see a backlog of all newsletters that go out, click here to view them on the site. Again, please accept our sincere apology and thank you so much for being an early adopter of the Sport Hub. Thanks for your patience as we build and improve on the system moving forward. Communication is key, and this project is meant to be collaborative not just among the organizations involved, but with the community as well. Any feedback you have, please send to admin@mysporthub.ca Many thanks, Your Sport Hub Antigonish Team |

Return to Sport - SurveyHello folks, There has been a lot of change in sport within the Antigonish community recently. Many sport activities have been cancelled or postponed indefinitely due to Covid-19. But Provincial Sport Organizations and Public Health officials are beginning to loosen restrictions and allow some gathering and activity to resume. As a number of sport organizations in Antigonish are preparing to return to modified play this Summer, they are looking for feedback from you to help inform their plans. A survey has been created - designed to gain insight into attitudes towards participating in organized sport this summer. This info will be shared with municipal recreation departments and local sports organizations to help plan any return to play based on the wants and needs of the community. This survey is open to everyone, even if you/your family have not participated in organized sport before. If you would like to have a say, you can find the survey here: https://forms.gle/XqVW8zySVUnC3kEU7 Thank you very much in advance for your participation. Best wishes, Sent on behalf of your Sport Hub Team |

Community Sport Updates & At Home Resources - as of June 2 2020And just like that, it’s June. Wow. This Spring has likely been different than usual for you and your family. We wanted to touch base (pun intended) and say hello. To say thanks for creating a Sport Hub account and being an early adopter! And to let you know that many Community and Provincial Sport Organizations have been super busy preparing to return to play in a modified way as public health related restrictions begin to lift. There is no question sport is going to look different this Summer – any programming that gets off the ground will likely be highly modified to stay within any approved provincial guidelines. Though news of “return to sport” guidelines is exciting, and sports may be approved to operate by these guidelines right away, it is important to recognize that many will require time in order to ensure they have proper plans in place and are able to communicate them out to their members. Other factors, such as facilities, could impact return time. Check out the breakdown below for status details of some of your favourite community sport organizations. These are current as of today, June 2 2020, and while we strive to provide the most updated information for all, the current situation means things change quickly. Please check with each organization for the most up-to-date information. Town of Antigonish: Wee Lads and Lassies (Mini Track and Field Program) has been cancelled for 2020. The Tennis Courts are open with regulations. The Skatepark is currently closed. Summer camps are officially cancelled as well. Stay tuned to the Facebook page for updates. The Municipality of the County of Antigonish: The difficult decision has been made to cancel traditional Summer Programs due to COVID-19. Stay tuned for more information and follow on Facebook to stay in touch. Antigonish Baseball Association: A return to play document was submitted by Baseball Nova Scotia last week. Once it has been reviewed against the provincial guidelines and there are no points of clarification, modified play can resume as per the return to play plan. Suspension of play is currently still in effect until June 15 2020. Follow on Facebook for updates. Antigonish Challenger Baseball: The health and safety of Challenger Baseball athletes, volunteers, and families is always at the forefront. After countless hours of planning, consideration, discussion, and review, guidelines that adequately mitigate the heightened risks to Challenger Baseball participants and volunteers amid the COVID-19 outbreak could not be created. As such, all in-person Challenger Baseball programs remain postponed until at least September 15 2020. Follow on Facebook for updates. Antigonish Minor Softball Association: Play is still suspended until further notice, more details will be released via Facebook and Sport Hub when they become available.
