Reopening Protocols, Org Updates, and a Youth Employment Opportunity
We are excited to share some updates with you this week as things begin to open up in "phase 2" and summer quickly approaches!
Before jumping into it, we'd like to send a massive thank you out to all the volunteers and great summer students working hard to re-organize everything post-lockdown and make this season a great one after a tough spring. If you are interested in helping out an organization, most of them are still looking for volunteers, so consider reaching out. And thanks also to all the families out there for your patience and understanding while we figure this all out together and get things back on track!
This a lengthy note, so for your reference it includes:
1. Covid Protocols
While excitement is certainly warranted at this time, we also must stay the course and remain vigilant to keep everyone safe as things ease. As programming resumes, strict facility protocols are in place for public safety. Program-specific rules/instructions will be communicated by each organization, but we also have some general standards to share here.
Protocols for each phase are collaboratively developed in accordance with the current public health guidelines so there will be consistency in the expectations across programs and facilities in the delivery of sport and recreation this summer. These restrictions should ease with time, so please stay tuned for changes to these rules as we move through the reopening phases.
We ask for your understanding and respect of the following:
Thanking you in advance for your respect and cooperation, and very much looking forward to seeing you this Summer!
2. Community Sport Organization Updates
Now, let’s get into the fun stuff: updates from some of your favorite local Community Sport Organizations!
There are some new programs and some programs that launched in the spring which are still open and looking to accept more members! Don’t feel it is too late to sign up for something as some programs still have space.

Thanks to all for their patience while we adapt to the situation.
All our programs are still open and there is space available! Please register via the Sport Hub website. Antigonish Minor Football
Antigonish Minor Football is looking to grow and provide more touch and tackle football opportunities to youth in Antigonish. After unfortunately having to cancel the programming planned for this Summer, we are planning for and looking forward to potential fall programming. In order to make this happen for the fall and beyond, we need volunteers.
Football and/or sport experience is an asset of course, but there are so many roles to fill within an organization, they will find a place for you based on your skillset! Good at managing social media? Like to organize events? Want to sit on the board? Have computer or admin skills? Run a mean canteen?
If you are interested in getting involved or would simply like more information, please contact email@example.com
Antigonish Baseball Association
Last week Antigonish Baseball got successfully underway with the start of our older age groups (18U, 15U, 13U, 12U & 14U girls, and 11U rep programs). Plans are underway to look at starting our younger divisions once public health restrictions on gathering limits ease. We are looking at getting our house league underway before the end of June and our rallycap divisions (8U and 6U) started in early July. The start of July is also our anticipated time for when we hope to be able to start playing games. Thanks to all the parents and players for their patience and cooperation as we all cope with covid rules and regulations. We aren't out of this yet but hopefully there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
We are still looking for umpires and people to help out with our teams. Umpires can register at bnsud.ca This year Antigonish Baseball will be reimbursing the umpire registration fee for anyone from this area who wants to become an umpire. For those that are looking to become coaches Baseball NS just announced another round of coaching clinics. Please go to baseballnovascotia.com to find out more about becoming a coach.
Antigonish Baseball and North Nova Highlanders would like to welcome aboard Ewan Galloway as one of our summer program coordinators. Ewan is a StFX student with years of experience helping out in the Bedford Minor Baseball Association. He is also an accomplished player so we are lucky to have him on board with us this year. Antigonish Baseball is still looking for one other candidate to assist Ewan. If you are interested please head to our website for more information. We will be filling this position as soon as possible.

Community Sport Return to Play – Summer ‘21
Thank you for your patience through this most recent lockdown. We are excited to let you know that recent provincial announcements mean the organizations you signed up with in April are now finally allowed to get going for the season. They've been contingency planning all along, but now the direction is more clear. Individual organizations are working on their Return to Play plans and information will be communicated directly by orgs to anyone registered in their programming once details are available.
This will look different for every organization/program and it won’t happen overnight. The first phase of re-opening starting this week is still very restrictive, but as the numbers increase in phase 2 it will make the logistics more reasonable. The cautious, flexible, phased approach being taken by the province means we all have to be patient as the orgs offer what is possible within the restrictions and when it is possible to do so. Please keep an eye on your email inbox, the “Family News” section of your Sport Hub account, and/or the organization's social media account(s) for up-to-date and program-specific information.
When programming resumes, strict protocols will be in place for public safety. Protocols for each phase are currently being collaboratively developed by our community sport organizations and the Town and County of Antigonish so there will be consistency in the expectations across programs and facilities. These protocols will be communicated to you by the organizations as soon as possible and in advance of program starts. Please pay attention to and make yourself well aware of the protocols (and phased changes) as they are communicated. We ask for your understanding and respect of the rules to help keep everyone safe. It should only get easier and less restrictive with time.
HUGE thanks to the volunteers that are working hard to make this season a fun, safe, and successful one. Please consider lending a helping hand to your favorite local organization, they could use the support now more than ever.
As always, feel free to reach out to email@example.com with any general Sport Hub or community sport questions, or get in touch directly with the organization(s) for org or programming-specific inquiries.
Thanks and all the best,
Your Sport Hub Team
Update and Survey
We realize a lot has changed since you registered for programs early last week. All the organizations are hopeful that programming will carry on as planned after lockdown and are working hard to prepare for any additional protocols or gathering limits that may be in place.
Please hold tight and keep an eye out for communications from the organizations you are signed up with, they will be in touch via email and on their facebook pages with updates as they become available re. new timelines or other adjustments that may be necessary.
Your feedback on the registration experience is extremely valuable to our sport community. Because this collaborative approach is such a new way to do things, and because we are building the online system from the ground up, any information we can get from users will help us improve the service. We also realize everyone will be busy these days with online learning and potentially working from home etc., but if you find a couple spare minutes, we would be grateful if you could take this quick survey on your Sport Hub registration experience: https://s.surveyplanet.com/Z18NFfg5J
Please read the questions carefully, as once you submit an answer you cannot go back and revise. Responses are anonymous and the survey should take no more than 5 minutes. We all thank you so much for your participation and look forward to learning how to serve you and your family better moving forward!
We also wanted to let you know to check out the "Family News" and "Family Schedule" features on the hub website. If someone in your family is a confirmed registrant in a program, you will see relevant news items and a full family programming schedule on these pages, respectively. Go to the drop down menu that appears when you click your name in yellow on the top right hand corner of the page when you are logged in and you will see these options.
As always if you have any questions or ideas, contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
Many thanks. Wishing you and your family all the best. Have a nice weekend!
-Your Sport Hub Team
Registration Tomorrow April 20 at Noon!
Sending along a quick reminder that registrations for a number of Spring/Summer activities will open tomorrow, Tuesday April 20, at noon on the Sport Hub website.
Registration will be going live for:
The previous programming newsletter sent on Friday can be accessed on the Hub Newsletters page. Please note: there have been a number of corrections, changes, and additions to that online version since the email, so best to refer to it online for the most up to date content. Plans are still forming/evolving and all info is subject to change. Information on organizations running registrations elsewhere can also be found in that newsletter. Remember that not ALL community sport programming registration is going through the hub, so check out the newsletter for info about all options.
Please be sure to create and/or finish setting up your Sport Hub account, family profile, and all individual family member profiles before tomorrow to avoid any delays when trying to register. Check to ensure that your required reading is complete, and the waiver is signed for each participant. Ensure you can see the “Register” button beside the name of each family member. If you don’t see the “Register” button, it means something still needs to be completed for set up. Being prepared in advance will make requesting registration(s) quick and simple!
When the time comes to register, click “Register” beside the name of the member. You will see a list of programming options with check boxes. This list is unique to the individual and only shows programs they are eligible to participate in. Click any program title for more information. Simply check off the program(s) you wish to register the member for, and submit your request. A page will pop up with additional questions - answer the question(s) on this page and submit. (This is usually just a simple media release, or maybe an additional waiver of some sort will be also associated with a certain program.) After this step, you have now requested registration in the program(s). Wait to receive an email that either confirms your registration or lets you know you have been put on a waitlist.
As long as the request status is “Pending”, you can retract the request through the same method – click “Register”, uncheck the program you wish to remove the participant from, and submit. Monitor the status of your requests on your family profile page any time.
Only once you are confirmed for a program should you follow through with payment. Once confirmed, you will receive a confirmation email telling you to review the payment process details that are linked on your family profile page. Each organization may have different payment methods, so review the payment process for each one you are involved with. When your payment has been received and processed by the organization, they will mark you “paid” on the back-end of the site and you will receive an automatic email confirming your payment. Balance on your family page will be adjusted based on payments confirmed.
Find a printable pdf instruction sheet here explaining how to create an account, set up your family, and follow through with registrations.
Reminder: The set-up process is easier on a computer than on a mobile device. After this initial set up process is completed once, you won’t have to do it again and all registrations will be quick and easy.
Reminder: Computer and internet access are available at the People’s Place Library at 283 Main street. Thank you to PARL (Pictou Antigonish Regional Library) for providing technology services (and many other wonderful services!) to our community.
If you have any questions or run into any issues, either during set up or registration, please email email@example.com. We are happy to help, please do not hesitate to get in touch!
Best of luck with registrations and we look forward to seeing all these great programs fill up with excited participants! Again, sending HUGE thanks to all the volunteers from the various organizations involved who are working so hard (and collaborating so well) to make these opportunities happen for our community.
Your Sport Hub Team
Spring Community Sport Update
Hello families of Antigonish, and happy Spring!
We are thrilled to write to you today with a pile of updates regarding Spring/Summer programming that will be offered by your favorite community organizations. As volunteers are still busy planning for this season, these specifics may be subject to change, but we hope this serves as a helpful resource to start planning your Summer. Some sports and activities start a little later in the Summer, and we will provide more details on the offerings and registrations for these in the coming weeks.
SCHEDULING: Many clubs have been collaborating behind the scenes to better align schedules and reduce conflicts for age groups this Summer. Though not all conflicts can be avoided due to the sheer volume of programming and various other factors, the groups are doing their best to minimize this issue, especially for younger children to have more opportunities. Thanks to all for their hard work and cooperation on this.
REGISTRATION: A number of local clubs will be offering registration through the Sport Hub Website this season!
We encourage you to log on to your account in advance and ensure everything is set up properly to avoid any delays or issues when registering. Email firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions. Some organizations are running registrations elsewhere and those will be highlighted here as well.
While the Hub site works on mobile devices, it might be easier, especially for family set-up the first time, to do it on a computer. For step by step “how-to-sport-hub” instructions, click HERE. This will help walk you through set up, which only has to happen once, and then all registrations will be quick and easy!

Happy New Year!
Happy New Year Folks!
Yesterday the province announced the current sport regulations, (originally announced on December 16), will remain in place for at least another two weeks.
Sports can continue to practice or train with groups of up to 25 without social distancing. This number includes all participants in the sporting activity, (coaches, trainers, etc.). Games, competition, and events are not permitted, so all teams and training groups are to be consistent within their own personnel.
Based on this announcement, both the registration and program start dates for the Multisport program will be delayed by 2 weeks. Registration for this program is now scheduled to open JANUARY 26th at 6AM. The program is now scheduled to begin on FEBRUARY 4th.
In exciting news, Stoirm Volleyball has launched registration for a modified house-league 2021 season which is ONLY open to RETURNING (2020) players at this time due to the gathering limits. Details for how to get involved as a new athlete will be communicated in the near future if space permits, but feel free to email email@example.com to be placed on a waitlist for further communications. Additional information about the upcoming season can be found on the Stoirm details page.
For unstructured opportunities to get active with your family, check out the Antigonish Town and Antigonish County Equipment Loan Programs. Groomed trails can be found for winter adventure at the Antigonish Golf Course and Keppoch Mountain. The Keppoch now has equipment to rent as well. Let’s take the roof off winter!

Be sure to watch your inbox for newsletters from us! You may want to white-list this email address and add us to your address book so our notes don’t end up in your junk box.

Antigonish Multisport Statement released regarding 2020/2021 Season:
"After much thought, consideration, and consultation about the upcoming Multisport season with our community partners, we feel that at this time, we are unable to offer our traditional Multisport program that was scheduled to start in September of 2020. We pride ourselves on a high-quality program, fully believe in the numerous benefits it offers, and strive to offer a safe and fun environment to play. Unfortunately, with the changing landscape of Covid-19, the multiple levels of logistics needed to implement our program, and the age of our participants, we feel it’s best to pause for this fall to ensure the safety, access, and enjoyment of all. Our partner organizations are committed to revisiting program planning this fall to look at potential modified programming for the new year".
Sport Hub Antigonish and its partner organizations had originally created a "shared schedule" for this Summer Season that would avoid conflict within age groups so children could participate in multiple activities. This is one of the main functions that this collaborative project is meant to facilitate. However, like many of our plans this year, we had to change to adapt to the strange circumstances. Partner organizations had to adapt on the fly and do what had to be done to be able to offer programming when and however possible with the resources available. This means there may be some conflicts this season with the programming that gets off the ground, though it is our goal to eliminate as much conflict as possible in future seasons. Sending a HUGE thank you to our coaches, organizers, and other volunteers that are making the current programming possible with an immense level of effort behind the scenes! Way to make the most of these challenging circumstances.

Each organization is following the guidelines set out by the provincial government and their provincial sport organization, for the most up to date information on the Public Health recommendations, visit https://novascotia.ca/coronavirus/ . For specific Provincial Sport Organization (PSO) Return to Play plans, please visit each provincial organization’s website.
The current NS Sport Guidelines for sport activities, such as practices and games remain in place. This means that there can be a maximum of 50 participants on a field of play, socially distanced, if the facility space allows, or there can be groups of 10 participants who are not distancing, provided each group is distanced from the other, again to a total of 50 participants. It is recommended that each group of 10 remains the same as much as possible.
As of July 3, facilities that are registered businesses or organizations that are hosting amateur sporting events and competitions will be subject to the gathering limits of up to 250 people socially distanced for outdoor events, and up to 50% capacity to a limit of 200 people for indoor events. It is important to note that this applies only to facilities hosting events that are registered businesses or organizations, and the NS Sport Guidelines remain in effect for the field of play for each host facility. Please note that the up to 50 individuals involved in the field of play are part of the overall gathering numbers (up to 200 indoors or 250 outdoors.

Thank you for your patience.
First of all, thank you for your patience while we deal with some glitches getting going with our newsletter system. Secondly, sincere apologies for the previous email with improper blind copy etiquette. It was the first newsletter we attempted to send using a new email server and a setup error caused this regrettable issue. It is fixed now, and hopefully, the error is resolved.
This on the heels of a previous issue where not all subscribers were receiving the emails. This is also now solved. If you wish to see a backlog of all newsletters that go out, click here to view them on the site.
Again, please accept our sincere apology and thank you so much for being an early adopter of the Sport Hub. Thanks for your patience as we build and improve on the system moving forward. Communication is key, and this project is meant to be collaborative not just among the organizations involved, but with the community as well. Any feedback you have, please send to email@example.com

Return to Sport - Survey
There has been a lot of change in sport within the Antigonish community recently. Many sport activities have been cancelled or postponed indefinitely due to Covid-19. But Provincial Sport Organizations and Public Health officials are beginning to loosen restrictions and allow some gathering and activity to resume. As a number of sport organizations in Antigonish are preparing to return to modified play this Summer, they are looking for feedback from you to help inform their plans.
A survey has been created - designed to gain insight into attitudes towards participating in organized sport this summer. This info will be shared with municipal recreation departments and local sports organizations to help plan any return to play based on the wants and needs of the community. This survey is open to everyone, even if you/your family have not participated in organized sport before.
If you would like to have a say, you can find the survey here:
Thank you very much in advance for your participation.

Community Sport Updates & At Home Resources - as of June 2 2020
And just like that, it’s June. Wow.
This Spring has likely been different than usual for you and your family. We wanted to touch base (pun intended) and say hello. To say thanks for creating a Sport Hub account and being an early adopter! And to let you know that many Community and Provincial Sport Organizations have been super busy preparing to return to play in a modified way as public health related restrictions begin to lift.
There is no question sport is going to look different this Summer – any programming that gets off the ground will likely be highly modified to stay within any approved provincial guidelines. Though news of “return to sport” guidelines is exciting, and sports may be approved to operate by these guidelines right away, it is important to recognize that many will require time in order to ensure they have proper plans in place and are able to communicate them out to their members. Other factors, such as facilities, could impact return time.
Check out the breakdown below for status details of some of your favourite community sport organizations. These are current as of today, June 2 2020, and while we strive to provide the most updated information for all, the current situation means things change quickly. Please check with each organization for the most up-to-date information.
